Ashfaq Alam sentenced to death for rape & murder of 5-yr-old neighbour

In the month of July this year, a very shameful incident came to light in Kerala, in which a man named Ashfaq Alam raped a 5-year-old girl living in his neighbourhood and then brutally murdered her by strangulating her with his T-shirt and throwing the body in the drain. The incident took place on 28 July 2023 in Aluva, Ernakulam, in which Alam had kidnapped a girl and raped and murdered her.

On Tuesday (14 November), when he was being sentenced to death, his face remained expressionless during the trial in the court. It was Chief Defense Counsel Adeep M and his team from Legal Aid Defense Consultancy System, Ernakulam, who appeared for the accused. Adeep said that he has ensured that the accused gets a fair trial, and an appeal will be filed in this matter before the High Court. He said the Kerala State Legal Services Authority will take a decision on his representation.
