In Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, a case of gang-rape of a girl in 11th grade was reported. The main accused, Irfan, tricked the girl into a friendship through Instagram, using one of his female friends to set the trap. After this, the main accused and his accomplices gang raped her and threatened to release a video of the assault if she didn’t comply with their demands. They also forced her to give them Rs 5 lakh and later demanded an additional Rs 10 lakh.

The police started investigating after the girl’s father filed a complaint. He said his daughter became friends with a girl at her coaching centre in October 2023. This friend encouraged her to connect with Irfan on Instagram. The girl initially blocked him, but her friend convinced her to unblock him. One day, the girl’s Instagram password was stolen and misused.

Irfan and his accomplices used obscene messages from her account to blackmail her into a physical relationship. They took inappropriate photos of her and used these to extort money, threatening to make the photos public. The girl ended up stealing money from her home to pay the accused. When Irfan came to collect the money, he demanded sexual favours as well.

In March, Irfan demanded Rs 10 lakh more, leaving the girl in shock. When her family noticed money was missing, she revealed the entire ordeal. Her father then contacted the police and reported that his daughter had been gang raped by five people.

So far, the police have arrested Irfan, his friend Arbaaz, and one other person. Arvind Singh, the officer in charge at the Christian Ganj police station, said this is a serious case and more arrests may follow. They are still searching for the other accused involved in the matter. They are also investigating the girl who initially introduced the victim to Irfan. CO North Rudra Pratap Sharma mentioned that obscene photos were found on Irfan’s phone, which will be examined forensically.
