A 34-year-old Abdul Rahim, who sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl, was sentenced to life imprisonment (including ten years of rigorous imprisonment) and a fine of one lakh rupees. Abdul Rahim from Nayattuvalappil House in Pallikal, Malappuram, was convicted by the Nilambur Fast Track Special POCSO Court Judge K.P. Joy.
The relevant incident began on 29 October 2018 when Rahim deliberately lured the minor girl from her house in Nilambur. The rapist took her to Bengaluru and Chennai, all the while sexually assaulting her. The violence continued till 13 November 2018. Nilambur police registered a complaint.
Nilambur Inspector Biju K.M. conducted the investigation (currently Perambra DYSP). During the probe, the victim was rescued from Chennai, and the suspect who was with her was arrested.
Nilambur police inspector Sunil Pulikkal completed the investigation and submitted the charge sheet. Special Public Prosecutor Adv. Sam K. Francis appeared for the state.
The prosecution examined 20 witnesses and produced 28 documents in court. The convict was sent to Tavanur Central Jail.
If the fine is not paid, Rahim will be imprisoned for two more years. The jail time undergone will be considered punishment. If the defendant pays the penalty, it should be handed over to the victim.
Questions like whether it was a grooming jihad case remain unknown. Who sponsored the trips to multiple cities, which enabled Rahim to stay hidden for over two weeks. Many Muslims actively propagate the population and love jihad in Kerala. Many Hindus fear such incidents will multiply when the Islamists become the majority, as is the case in Malappuram.
