13 Hindu female MBBS students allege abuse by Asst. Prof Saleem Sheikh in Delhi college

In Delhi, 13 Hindu female MBBS students from Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College have come forward alleging physical abuse and sexual harassment by Assistant Professor Saleem Sheikh. This has sparked massive anger and outrage among the public, leading to protests and heavy police deployment outside the college premises. A case has been registered in relation to the allegations, prompting authorities to take action.

Protests erupted outside Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College in New Delhi on Monday, targeting Salim Sheikh, an assistant professor at the institution. Organized by Mahila Nyay Smiti, the protests aimed to highlight allegations of sexual harassment made by multiple female students against the accused Islamist professor.

Based on the reports from News Bharati, the charges, predominantly voiced by Hindu female medical students, have triggered widespread condemnation and indignation across various societal factions. Protesters alleged that Sheikh subjected Hindu female students to physical abuse, and he was known for posing inappropriate questions and making physical contact at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and Medical College. Dharmender Suri, a protester, conveyed the collective anger, labeling the professor’s actions as heinous and igniting societal outcry.

Based on the reports from OpIndia, the demonstration, driven by the pursuit of justice for the affected Hindu students and the promotion of societal awareness, manifested as a sizable public gathering outside Gate No. 2 of the college. The atmosphere outside the institution remained tense, with a significant police presence to maintain order. Protesters wielded placards denouncing the accused professor and demanded his immediate removal from his post. Slogans reverberated, echoing the societal demand for justice.

The protests erupted following complaints from two college girls who alleged sexual harassment by Sheikh during their MBBS viva on January 31st. Subsequently, the victims filed a police report on February 22nd. However, protesting organizations lamented the lack of action taken by the authorities in response to the case.

‘We will not allow BSA Medical College to become another “Sandeshkhali”, they said. Supported by various Hindu organizations in the city, protesters adorned posters proclaiming their determination to prevent the college from resembling “Sandeshkhali.” The National Commission for Women has also taken note of the incident, urging swift action in the matter. Protesters also chanted slogans against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of failing to take action against Islamist Salim Sheikh. The National Commission for Women has called for an investigation under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, citing a significant rise in crimes against Hindu women in recent times.
