1 crore drug bust in Thiruvananthapuram; 155 kg ganja and 61 gm MDMA seized

An Excise team nabbed a four-member gang who rented a house at Nehru Junction near Thumba and seized large quantities of marijuana and methamphetamine (MDMA). Carlos Anthony (34), Anu Antony (34), Shibu (21), and Joshua (24) natives of Valiyaveli were arrested. 155 kg of ganja and 61 grams of MDMA were seized from them. The market price is more than one crore rupees. Thumba is a coastal area of Thiruvananthapuram City, the capital of Kerala.

The incident happened around 2 pm on Sunday. Excise Inspector Shibu B L conducted the inspection based on the confidential information received by authorities. The secret information was that a group was coming from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh in a car with narcotic drugs and that they had a huge drug business at home in Kerala. Based on this, the excise team chased the car but the vehicle did not stop. Then, during the inspection conducted by the Excise team, the team found the car lying at the house in Nehru Junction and reached there and arrested the four people with the illicit goods. The ganja was found in 72 packets tied in 10 sacks.

The accused told the Excise that the contraband was delivered by car from Visakhapatnam. The four accused went to Visakhapatnam together by car, but two of them returned to Thiruvananthapuram by air and two by car. The group rented a house in Nehru Junction through OLX. The Excise Inspector says that these are not small traders but wholesalers.

The accused were arrested by a team consisting of Excise Commissioner B A Salim and Excise Inspector Shibu. Latest trends show that Christians too have started peddling drugs in Kerala.
