Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 14 December to 20 December 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) A disturbing case of alleged land grabbing, involving forgery and official collusion, has emerged from Chikkanayakanahalli village in Belagodu Hobli of Sakleshpur Taluk, Hassan District. A Scheduled Caste woman, Siddamma, was fraudulently declared dead through forged records by Sheikh Mohammad so that he could to unlawfully transfer her land to his own name, despite the fact that she is alive.

2) HR&CE can intervene in temple mismanagement but cannot touch rituals rules Madras High Court.

3) Tension gripped the Ramkrishnapur area of West Bengal’s Kulpi Assembly constituency after miscreants allegedly beheaded the Murti of Sri Bajrangbali at the Bajrangbali Temple near Singir Hat More. The temple’s aarti sound system was also vandalised during the attack.

4) Harshu Thakur, a dedicated Hindu activist from Nanded, Maharashtra, has endured years of relentless persecution that escalated from vicious online campaigns into a savage physical assault.

5) Christian evangelism targeting Hindus in Tirupati’s educational institutions has ignited outrage, with two high-profile cases exposing alleged proselytization efforts by Christian faculty members in government-run colleges revered for their proximity to the sacred Tirumala temple. Lecturer Madhavi at Sri Venkateswara Government Polytechnic College and Prof Ch Changaiah at Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) stand accused of using classroom authority to propagate Jesus Christ, prompting protests from Hindu groups determined to safeguard Hindu students from conversion tactics.

6) Rupesh Dubey is a well-known activist in Mumbai’s Mira-Bhayandar area. He is now being targeted by the BHIM-MIM alliance for standing up for Hindu rights. From ground reports, we can also safely conclude that a section of the police is acting in favour of BHIM-MIM alliance and deliberately troubling activists like Rupesh.

7) In yet another case highlighting the organized misuse of religious authority to facilitate unlawful conversions, police have arrested an Islamist cleric, Maulvi, who officiated the nikah of a village woman after she was allegedly lured away and forcibly converted. Police investigations revealed that the nikah was solemnized by Jabbar, also known as Hafiz and Maulvi, whose role went beyond mere officiation and directly facilitated the illegal conversion and marriage. He was subsequently named as an accused in the case and had been evading arrest.

8) A gruesome murder case in Yamunanagar, Haryana, has shocked the region after a 25-year-old Hindu woman’s headless and semi-naked body was discovered in a poplar nursery near Bahadurpur village on the national highway. The victim, identified as Uma from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was a mother of a 13-year-old son who had left her husband and family for a two-year live-in relationship with her killer. Police investigations revealed the brutality stemmed from relationship tensions and the accused’s impending marriage to another woman.

9) A disturbing case of alleged sexual harassment of schoolgirls has shaken Karnataka’s Haveri district, once again highlighting the role of vigilant local communities in protecting children when institutional safeguards fail. As per reports, in Savanur town, a government Urdu high school teacher accused of repeatedly harassing minor girls was confronted by enraged parents and residents after the victims courageously spoke out, triggering widespread outrage.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) A Hindu youth was brutally beaten to death and his body later set on fire in a horrifying incident in Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh district, reportedly following allegations of insulting religion. According to local sources, the victim was attacked by a mob after accusations were circulated that he had made remarks deemed offensive to religious sentiments. Eyewitnesses allege that the youth was mercilessly assaulted with sticks and rods before being killed. In a shocking act of brutality, the attackers allegedly set his body on fire in an apparent attempt to erase evidence and instill fear.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
