This is an incident which I had faced recently. I am currently at Texas A&M doing my Masters. We people along with the Hindu Yuva group organize, participate, help students get to know regarding their culture and about our festivals etc.
This Sunday on the occasion of completing the Ganesh visarjan, hinduyuva had organised a Ganesh pooja to commemorate the completion, during this time, I came across an individual holding a placard, for proselytising the Hindus there at the event. Initially he was present outside the premises later he comes in holding the placard, which hurts Hindu sentiments.
When confronted by us, on why he is involved in such activities especially during festivals and that too on such occasions. He mentioned that he wants to save us non-believers and make us accept the true faith of Christianity. A few of us had an argument after which we were asked to not turn it into a big argument at that time, the police officials there were extremely helpful and they helped to get him away from the premises the next day.
HinduYUVAUSA posted on Instagram regarding this incident after which, the post had received a lot of extremely vulgar and negative replies. We are trying to make this public and would like to combat this kind of Hinduphobic act.
We can see a sharp uptick in such kind of activities. We are trying to bring awareness about such kind of activities and also take proper actions against these people. Pls spread the word around regarding this and firstly raise awareness and also start combating this.
Would welcome opinions on what actions can be taken or steps further. Seeing this take place just days after the Tirupati incident shows what kind of precarious situation Hindus are across the globe. Pls raise awareness and help us take some action regarding the same.
