Western media’s bias & Hinduphobia seen in its coverage of the Texas Sri Hanuman murti unveiling

Hinduphobia runs deep in Western media and their bias and hatred for Hindus and Bharat is repeatedly seen in their coverage. The recent instance of Western Media’s Hinduphobia was evident in its coverage of the unveiling of Sri Hanuman vigraha in the American state of Texas.

Ninety-feet Bhagwan Hanuman murti unveiled in Texas

A majestic 90-foot bronze murti of Bhagwan Hanuman was unveiled near Houston in Texas, making a significant mark as one of the tallest vigrahas globally. Named the Statue of Union, this murti stands as the tallest Hanuman murti outside Bharat, the tallest vigraha in Texas, and the third tallest in the United States, surpassed only by the Statue of Liberty in New York (151 feet) and the Pegasus and Dragon statue in Hallandale Beach, Florida (110 feet).

The Statue of Union, unveiled at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, approximately 35 km from Houston, was consecrated during the Prana Prathishta Mahotsavam from August 15 to 18. This towering murti symbolizes selflessness, devotion, and unity, according to the organisers, who named it in honour of Bhagwan Hanuman’s pivotal role in reuniting Prabhu Ram and Sita Mata.

The creation of this awe-inspiring structure was driven by the visionary efforts of His Holiness Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, a Padma Bhushan awardee and renowned Vedic scholar. The project was envisioned as a spiritual epicentre for North America, bringing the divine presence of Sri Hanuman to the region.

The festivities, beginning on August 15 in alignment with Bharat’s Independence Day, culminated in the grand Pran Prathistha ceremony on August 18. Led by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji and accompanied by numerous Vedic priests and scholars, the rituals showcased a profound display of devotion and spirituality. The ceremony included a helicopter showering flowers upon the murti, the sprinkling of sacred water, and the placement of a 72-foot-long garland around Bhagwan Hanuman’s neck, as thousands of devotees chanted the names of Sri Ram and Hanuman in unison.

Western Media’s Bias & Hinduphobia

America First Post (AF Post) referred to Bhagwan Hanuman as a ‘demon’, displaying their Hinduphobia. Referring to a Hindu deity as a ‘demon’ reeks of deep hatred for a community that is a minority in that nation. It can’t be reiterated enough that the Hindu diaspora has been law-abiding but the media spews only venom against them.

The Newsweek wasn’t far behind in posting Hinduphobic content. The portal’s Hinduphobia was clear in its headline which referred to Sri Hanuman as ‘half-monkey.’

End Times Headlines displayed similar Hinduphobia.

Another X account dared to term the murti as a ‘monstrosity’ and also, called Christians into action. If this isn’t Hinduphobia, what is?

Journalist Swati Goel Sharma rightly questioned the Hinduphobia and mockery of Hindu sentiments by Western media. Will the West accept such mockery of Jesus or Mary? Can we term Jesus as a half-naked bearded bloke hanging on a cross?

The Western media is no different from Christian radicals who want Hindus to be ‘tolerant’ but themselves practice intolerance. The Western media has a Hindu problem and it is time we call out their Hinduphobia.
