West Bengal: Gunfight between BSF and cattle smugglers in Nadia

Armed cattle smugglers attacked BSF jawans at Ichchamati border post area under Dhantala police station of Nadia district. The attack happened when on-duty BSF jawans tried to stop cow smuggling attempt. Few cattle smugglers injured in BSF retaliation. One smuggler has been arrested while others managed to flee to Bangladesh. 

It is known that in early Friday morning, on-duty BSF jawans noticed that some people are smuggling cows through the Ichchamati river. When BSF jawans tried to apprehend them, cattle smugglers started firing at jawans. In retaliation, BSF jawans fired at them. Cattle smugglers also hurled country made crude  bombs at BSF jawans. 

DIG of BSF’s Krishnanagar Range, Sanjay Kumar said, “The incident happened at 3 A.M. in the morning. Jawans of 68 No. Battalion retaliated. We detained a cattle smugglers named Hasan Mondal and he was handed over to police. Others managed to flee to Bangladesh.”

  1. Indian Govt. should enforce much stricter border security to eliminate this longstanding cattle smuggling slong the porous Indo-Bangladesh border. If these smugglers are are shoot at sight, this problem can be solved. The law & order condiiton in the state of West Bengal has significantly deteriorated, particularly in the bordering areas which have become abode of criminals who now do not dare to resort to firearms to fight with the BSF jawans.
