A Kerala police civil police Sub-Inspector was suspended for trying to assault a young woman at the Aranmula police station in the Pathanamthitta district. The District Police chief suspended Sajeef Khan of Aranmula Police Station. Khan misbehaved with the lady (a temporary employee) while she was working inside the station canteen. She used to housekeep and prepare tea for the officers on duty.
On Friday, Khan grabbed the victim, and she complained to the Station House Officer (SHO). He had misbehaved with the girl before. Officers at the station tried their best to settle the issue without filing a complaint, but she stood her ground.
Pathanamthitta DYSP Nandakumar, who came to know about the incident through the Intelligence Department, sent the woman for counseling. This is where the young woman narrated the events that happened. She told the counselors that Khan had attempted to molest her several times.
She had warned him but to no avail and complained, unable to bear the torture. The young victim’s statement was recorded at the Pathanamthitta Women’s Police Station. An FIR was registered on the instructions of Police Inspector Leelamma.
Subsequently, Swapnil M Mahajan IPS, the District Police Chief, appointed DYSPs to investigate the incident and submit a report. Pathanamthitta narcotics cell DYSP KA Vidyadharan and Pathanamthitta DYSP Nandakumar investigated the complaint. After receiving the report on Saturday evening, Sajeef Khan was suspended and issued an order that night.
Khan, a native of Pathanapuram, lived in the Pathanamthitta police quarters. He is reportedly absconding. The incident, the attempt to cover it up, and the fact that he is missing have embarrassed the Kerala police and Aranmula Model Police Station. It is suspected that radical Islamist elements associated with the Pacha Velicham (Green Light) group in the Kerala police support him.
