Minor Hindu Girl forcibly converted and married to Islamist Md Nadeem: Sindh, Pakistan

On 12 March 2024, Muhammad Nadeem reportedly abducted a minor Hindu girl, Kamla, daughter of Sumar Meghwar, from her home in Sindh’s Tando Allahyar. He then forcibly converted her to Islam and married her. Nadeem is a resident of Darya Khan Thahim in Tando Allahyar.

Kamla’s family lodged an FIR under Section 365-B (Kidnapping) of the Pakistan Penal Code on 13 March 2024, at B Section Police Station, Tando Allahyar. But the family says no action was taken even after two months, which is common in such cases.

In Pakistan, abductions and coerced conversions of Hindu minors to marry Muslim males are widespread occurrences. Families of victims have to frequently approach the local landlord to register an FIR because police do not even register an FIR without the intervention of the local landlord. After doing all three, an FIR is registered at the behest of the local landlord, but their complaints often go unnoticed and unheeded. Victims fail to get justice even as the offenders escape punishment.
