Utilising the ‘Indian Post’ as a conduit, Uddin was involved in trafficking drugs across state borders, shedding light on the alarming nexus between pharmacies and illicit drug trade.
Arrest and Investigation
Hassan Uddin, a pharmacist based in Dimapur, was apprehended following a collaborative effort between the Nagaland Police, Arunachal Pradesh Police, and West Bengal Police. The joint operation uncovered Uddin’s utilisation of the postal delivery system to dispatch parcels of morphine from Dimapur to West Bengal.
Modus Operandi and Seizure:
Operating from a medical shop in Dimapur’s Murgi Patti area, Uddin sourced morphine from Moreh, a town near the Myanmar border. Subsequently, parcels containing approximately 2 kg of morphine, valued at Rs 8 crore, were intercepted by the West Bengal Police in Barrackpore in February……”
