Recently, the result of the Higher Secondary examination was published. , in the result, a youth from the Sandeshkhali shined. Pritam Mondal, from the Vangipara area of the Sandeshkhali, surprised everyone and scored 483 out of 500 and ranked 14th in West Bengal. 

Pritam is the son of Pradip Mondal. Pradip Mondal was a well-known face in Sandeshkhali from 2012-2019. Pradip Mondal and his friends started a resistance movement in the villages of Sandeshkhali against the land mafia and notorious TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan. 

Pradip Mondal, Devdas Mondal, Sujit Mondal, Tapan Mondal, Sukanta Mondal and others united the oppressed people of Sandeshkhali. Pradip Mondal was the face of the resistance. They fought against the alleged atrocities of the gangs of Sheikh Shahjahan. Due to the strong resistance, Sheikh Shahjahan and his gangs lost control over a large area. 

Pradip Mondal was a member of Hindu Samhati, an organisation which was established by Tapan Ghosh. Later, he joined BJP. 

On 8th June 2019, goons of Sheikh Shahjahan attacked Vangipara village. The armed goons dragged Pradip Mondal from his home and killed him. Several shots were fired from the point-blank range. A bullet was fired in his left eye, and his eye was popped out from the socket. 

Besides Pradip Mondal, Devdas, Sujit, Tapan, Sukanta and Shankar Mondal were murdered. 

Later, CID took over the case. But CID couldn’t find anything against Sheikh Shahjahan, and eventually, Sheikh Shahjahan was acquitted of the case. Earlier, the Police investigation team included Sheikh Shahjahan’s name in the charge sheet. But, CID excluded his name from the charge sheet.

Pradip Mondal’s wife, Padma Mondal, is still fighting for justice. She filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court seeking NIA and CBI investigation into the murder of her husband. 

Since the murder of Pradip Mondal, Padma Mondal couldn’t return to the village. She has been living in another area, which she didn’t want to disclose. She said, “I’m still waiting for justice. My son wants to be an IPS officer. I’m doing everything possible for him.”
