West Bengal: Ramkrishna Mission Ashram is under attack in Jalpaiguri

After the attack on several Hindu temples in Dhupguri, the Ramkrishna Mission is attacked in Jalpaiguri.

On the night of the 19th of May, unknown miscreants attacked Ramkrishna Mission Ashram in the Bhaktinagar area of the Jalpaiguri district. The goons were armed. They beat up the workers and Sadhus there. They also vandalised several things in the Ashram.

A Sadhu of the Ramkrishna Mission alleged, “They threatened to murder us if we didn’t leave the place. Some people have been trying to grab the land for many years.”

According to local sources, the Ramkrishna Mission is building a school and Ashram on the land. The land was donated by a man who was associated with the Mission. But, as the land is valuable, some people were trying to grab the land. That may be the reason behind this attack.

As usual, this attack has created political controversy in the state. BJP targeted TMC-backed goons for this attack. Even PM Narendra Modi, from a rally in West Medinipur’s Jhargram, targeted TMC and CM Mamata Banerjee.

PM Narendra Modi alleged, “Recently Mamata Banerjee targeted Bharat Sevashram Sangha, ISKCON and Ramkrishna Mission. Encouraged by that comment, TMC-backed goons are attacking Sadhus of the Ramkrishna Mission. No one ever thought that Ramkrishna Mission Ashram would be attacked in West Bengal.”

Head of the Jalpaiguri Ramkrishna Mission Ashram, Swami Shivapremananda Maharaj said, “The goons were armed. They abducted our sadhus and workers. Later, they were released. We already filed a complaint in the Bhaktinagar Police Station.”
