A youth who sustained injuries during a scuffle related to the disturbing Dudhnoi rape case tragically passed away in a hospital last Friday, on the 17th of May. The incident has fueled a wave of anger and protest in the area.
The deceased has been identified as Hiranmay Khaklari. Hiranmay was a member of the Village Defence Party(VDP).
On the 3rd of May, two minor girls from the Janajatia community were returning from the cultural program of a nearby village. Three Islamists allegedly dragged them and gang-raped them. Later, they left the girls on a road.
Next day, the family of the girls filed complaint in the Dudhnoi Police Station. The police immediately lodged an FIR(No- 35/24) and started the investigation. Although, the accused were absconding.
After receiving the news, on the night of the 5th of May, Hiranmay Khaklari and other members of the VDP reached the house of accused Dhan Talukdar’s house in Sarapara village. There, Dhan Talukdar and his relatives attacked them with sharp weapons. Hiranmay and others were stabbed. Hiranmay was seriously injured.
Meanwhile, Hiranmay was rushed to the local hospital. From there, he was transferred to Guwahati for better treatment.
The alleged gang rape case and death sparked anger among the Bodo community of the Goalpara district. The police also filed another case(FIR No- 39/24) in the murder incident. The Police arrested Shekabar Ali and his wife Parbina Begum.
Also, the Police arrested three Islamists who were accused in ganga rape case. The arrested are identified as Dhan Talukdar, Bahar Ali and Rahman Ali.
