CoHNA shows how VP nominee JD Vance’s Hindu wife Usha has become latest target for Hinduphobia, on both America’s left and right

For those who deny #Hinduphobia.

The selection of Sen. Vance on the Republican ticket and the #Hindu background of his wife #UshaChilukuri, has triggered a torrent of hate & abuse. Vile tropes, graphic imagery, and slurs from haters on the right & the left.

As pointed out by the 2022 @ncri_io report, there’s widespread use of imagery to associate #Hinduism with dirt, filth and violence + coded anti-Hindu slurs like #pajeet.

Also as expected, we see heavy overlap between those pushing #antisemitism and those targeting Hindus.

For years, we’ve fought “caste” laws/policies in US & Canada, which come cleverly masked in the language of #humanrights or #socialjustice (Calif #Sb403, Canada #M128)

Folks ask-why?

Because caste identity is forced on (even diaspora) Hindus-no matter their own preference.

Since #caste is quite deliberately taught as Hindu (starting with textbooks & dictionaries), the easiest and most common way to attack or smear Hindu individuals & ideas is to reduce them to their purported caste and tar them as different/oppressive – no matter the context.

And then there was the rage about “Hindu prayer” at the RNC. Even though it wasn’t Hindu, it brought to fore the hate against our very existence. Why do “pagans”, “polytheists”, “demonic gods” & idol worshipers still exist, despite the millennia of efforts to eradicate them?

And while ALL #minorities face hate, we see there is a sliding scale. And yes – #Hinduism faces the worst end of it.

Even worse – #Hindus see academics, organizations and media use their institutional privilege to deny the existence of Hinduphobia, versus helping them.

This is why CoHNA exists-to call out and fight hate and #Hinduphobia. We will not shy away from asking for our space, for the right to be proud practicing Hindus – be it politics or schools, workplaces, and community spaces.
