Canada has taken a significant step against Iran by designating Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps as a terrorist group. On Wednesday, Public Security Minister Dominic LeBlanc announced this decision and advised Canadians living in Iran to leave the country.
“Our government has decided to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps a terrorist group under the Criminal Code,” LeBlanc said at a press conference.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly mentioned that Canada had cut diplomatic ties with Iran several years ago and urged Canadians not to travel to Iran. “For those in Iran now, it is time to return home,” Joly said.
This designation means that members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard are banned from entering Canada and cannot maintain personal or community relationships with Canadians. Additionally, any property they own in Canada may be confiscated.
Canada’s foreign and law ministers accused the Iranian regime of supporting terrorism, violating human rights, and trying to destabilize international order.
