“Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra from the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has come under fire for endorsing a white supremacist’s derogatory remarks about Indians and their cultural practices. The controversy erupted after a handle named Nate (@CelticAshes) posted a video of a chaotic street scene, captioned with vitriolic language deriding Indians for supposedly turning Western countries into “total shitholes” with their “retarded Diwali garbage.” The post, which has since amassed over 2,400 likes and 486,000 views, was met with widespread condemnation for its racist undertones.

However, TMC MP Mahua Moitra, known for her shrill rhetoric and criticism of the Indian government, agreed with the comments made by the White Supremacist.

Mahua Moitra’s apparent endorsement of such inflammatory rhetoric is particularly egregious given the timing, coinciding with Diwali’s growing recognition as a significant cultural event in Western nations. A recent New York Times article on October 21, 2025, noted the festival’s increasing prominence, with U.S. states like California and New York City officially recognizing it as a public holiday. This recognition is a testament to the contributions of the approximately 25 million Indians living abroad, who have played a crucial role in promoting Indian culture globally…….”
