Journalist Bikul Chakraborty and his family members are facing threats based on misinformation and disinformation by various Islamist Facebook IDs. A section of vested quarters at Srimangal town under Moulvibazar district in Bangladesh recently. Bikul Chakraborty is the Moulvibazar district correspondent of Ekushey TV (ETV).

On September 2, Journalist Bikul Chakraborty in his Facebook ID posted and said that some vested quarters shared provocative communal posts against him intending to harass and endanger his and his family members’ lives.
Some vested quarters shared and spread communal provocative posts against him from several Facebook IDs for the last few days, Bikul Chakraborty alleged in his Facebook post. Bikul also asserted that some vested quarters spread fabricated, motivated and baseless information against him.
“It’s a conspiracy against me to harass and endanger my life and harm communal harmony in a planned way,” said Bikul. He also mentioned that there was such a campaign against him in 2013. Then, local Imams and elites verified the entire matter and told him that someone hatched the conspiracy and tried to force it on me. The local Imams and elites also asserted that it wasn’t the journalist’s fault. Mohsin Mia Madhu, the then-former mayor of Srimangal Municipality knows the whole matter.
His family members and he feel insecure following the spreading of misinformation and disinformation by some vested interests who acted to fulfil their ill motive by reporting his Facebook ID. He noted that after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, a mob vandalized and looted his office and this caused a huge amount of financial loss at Hobiganj road in Srimangal town.
This case is another grim reminder of the threat faced by Bangleshi Hindu minorities.
