In a chilling incident that has reignited concerns over minority persecution, a Hindu businessman was brutally murdered late Monday night in Netrokona’s Mohanganj area, just 150 yards away from the local police station.
The victim, Narayan Pal (40) — son of Nripendra Pal from Rautpara in Mohanganj Municipality — was the owner of “Narayan Store,” a well-known grocery shop at Thana Mor. Around 11:15 PM, locals discovered his slit-throat body inside his own shop. Police later recovered the body and began an investigation.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the murder took place alarmingly close to the police station, raising serious questions about security and law enforcement vigilance. Officers are now analyzing CCTV footage from nearby establishments to identify the perpetrators.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam of Mohanganj Police Station stated,
“We have prepared the inquest report and are examining all possible angles. The body is being sent to Netrokona Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Legal action will be taken promptly.”
This heinous killing has sparked outrage among locals and human rights observers, who allege that targeted attacks on Hindu minorities are continuing unabated across Bangladesh under a worsening law-and-order situation.
Community leaders have demanded a swift and transparent investigation, calling for justice and protection for vulnerable religious minorities who continue to live in fear amid a surge of violence and impunity.
