Subhasis Basu, a businessman of Sadarghat market was abducted on the night of 3rd of January, 2025. Around 6 Islamists abducted the businessman and later freed him after his family paid the ransom of 3 lac BDT to the kidnappers. Later, based on the complaint of the Hindu businessman, the police started an investigation and arrested one person named Irfan Ahmed Rayhan(27). Others kidnappers are still absconding.

In his confession, Irfan Ahmed Rayhan said that on that night, they picked businessman Subhasis Basu from his shop. Then he was taken to a house in Maulavi Bazar. His eyes were tied with a cloth and he was handcuffed. Kidnappers told him to contact his family and demanded to pay 2 crores BDT as ransom.
