10 Downing Street has scheduled a meeting of Zelensky with Prince Charles as an afterthought after the dressing down he received from President Trump and Vice president Vance at the Oval office.
Keir Starmer who received the Ukranian President in London on Saturday after his early exit from the White House has scheduled a meeting of Zelensky with King Charles in Buckingham Palace.
President Trump is slated to visit London on the invitation of King Charles and maybe it will need a royal intervention to sooth the tempers of both camps.
What flared the Trump Zelensky tete- a- tete at the Oval office was the remark by the comedian turned Ukranian President when all was going well and both leaders had exchanged pleasantries with the President thanking his counterpart for coming to the White House.
Zelensky while replying to JD Vance said “Everyone has problems you have a nice ocean in between you don’t feel now but you could feel it in future,” which was totally out of context and got a quick rebuttal from the US President.
“Don’t tell us what we are going to feel you are in no position to dictate what we are going to feel. We are going to feel very good and very strong.”
“You are not in a very good position right now you don’t have the cards but with us you start having cards”.
He further said ” you are gambling with the lives of millions of people you are gambling with world War 3.”
Zelensky’s pugnacious attitude in the White House supporting soldier colors did not go down well with President Trump and his deputy who admonished Zelensky for being disrespectful to the US President and the administration.
“You are forcing conscripts to the frontline because you have manpower problems,” Zelensky asked Vance if he had ever been to Ukraine to which the Vice president said “I have watched and seen stories and I know that you bring people on a propaganda tour.” ” Do you disagree that you have problems bringing people to your military”.
Zelensky has been on crutches provided by the US and his demeanor could have been softer unlike the combative approach he chose in the White House.
As Trump said ” The war would have been over in 2 weeks without American support.” “I gave you the Javelins to take out all those tanks Obama gave you Sheaths You got to be more thankful.”
“I think we have seen enough this is going to be great television.we will see how we can put this all together,” were President ‘s closing remarks to the media present in the Oval office.
After a close huddle with his advisors Zelensky was told to leave the White House and the food trolleys meant for Zelensky and his entourage had no takers.
As the European nations rallied around Zelensky NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte advised the Ukranian President to “find a way,” to restore his relationship with President Trump and the US administration.
After the Oval office meltdown Zelensky realizing the helplessness of the situation he was in said that he was ready to sign the mineral deal with President Trump. On his part Trump said that Zelensky overplayed his hand that we want peace.
So, it’s a stalemate for now but not for long as things are happening and moving at a brisk pace in this Trump term and his tenure is just 35 days old.
