Why Does Bollywood Often Mock Hinduism, But Not Other Religions?
Today many Indians are asking this question: “Why only Hindu gods and traditions are made fun of in movies?”
“Why temples are shown as business, but not churches or mosques?”
Let’s look into this with open eyes, clear mind, and with full facts – without hate, but full truth.
1. Bollywood Only Mocks Those Who Stay Silent Bollywood is not brave. It is smart – but smart in a clever and selfish way. It knows very well: – Hindu community is peaceful and forgiving – No violence, no international protest even after jokes on gods – People will just say “ignore it” or “don’t watch if you don’t like” So filmmakers think: “Target Hinduism. Nothing will happen.”
But for other religions: – There are immediate protests, legal action, media pressure – There can be international backlash, brand boycotts, threats – Bollywood gets scared and stays silent
Real Example: – PK movie (2014): Aamir Khan’s character pees on Hindu posters, makes fun of temples, and sadhus.
➤ No protest from Bollywood. – But if any movie even mentions a Muslim prayer or Christian nun wrongly
➤ Within hours: Apology, removal, boycott threat.
- Urban Elites Think Hinduism Is “Backward”
Many Bollywood writers, directors, and actors live in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, or abroad. They are educated in schools where:
- Hindu traditions are called “superstition”
- Old Indian customs are shown as dirty, unscientific
- Ramayana and Mahabharat are called “myths”, not history
So in their mind:
“Wearing tilak = orthodox”
“Doing puja = not modern”
“Believing in Ram = bhakt or joke”
They don’t hate Hinduism. But they look at it with shame, like something to hide. This mindset comes from colonial education started by British.
- Big Money & Foreign Influence
To make a big film, you need big money. Many producers take money from:
- Foreign companies
- International NGOs
- OTT platforms (like Netflix, Prime) based outside India
These funders sometimes say:
“Make modern films that criticize religion.”
But actually they mean:
“Only target Hinduism. Don’t touch other religions.”
🔍 Hidden Truth:
One famous producer’s studio got donation from a UK-based NGO that had one condition:
“Expose blind faith, but no negative image of minority groups.”
So they happily made scenes where:
- Hindu priest = rapist or thief
- Temple = business
- Saffron clothes = violent
But they never touched other faith leaders.
- Temples Are Mocked, Others Get Respect
Have you seen how temples are shown in movies?
- Loud bells, crowd, money donation, chaos
- Priest asking for money, scolding poor people
- “Bhagwan sab dekh rahe hain” type dramatic dialogues
But when they show:
- Mosque: Always clean, quiet, spiritual
- Church: Modern, peaceful, calm music, helpful priest
Real Movies:
- Oh My God (2012): Lord Krishna is shown stylish, but temples shown as corrupt
- Tandav Web Series: College play mocking Lord Shiva → apology forced after backlash
- Sacred Games: Ganesh Gaitonde says “God is dead” while background has Hindu images
➤ Imagine if same dialogue was said inside a mosque or church!
- Repetition Has Normalised It
Now in Bollywood, mocking Hinduism is just habit.
- One movie showed sadhu as criminal → next 10 copied same
- One scene made joke on Karva Chauth → all romantic movies followed it
- One hero said “Main bhagwan ko nahi manta” → became “modern hero” type dialogue
Slowly, public also stopped noticing. Now it feels “normal” to laugh at:
- Ganpati visarjan scenes
- Holi as drink-and-flirt festival
- Shiva’s image in joke dialogues
This is mental conditioning.
- Real Hindu Science Is Hidden
Hindu dharm is full of deep knowledge. But Bollywood never shows that side.
What they don’t show:
- Yoga is a gift from Shiva
- Temple bells have sound healing power (infrasound)
- Tilak on forehead affects pineal gland (third eye)
- Surya Namaskar = full-body exercise + hormone balance
- Every shloka has vibration science behind it
But what do movies show?
- People doing “aarti” and then corruption
- Priest telling bhagwan to solve problems magically
- Rishi giving curses and fighting
This creates a wrong image in young minds.
- Fear of Minority Reaction Is Real
People say “All religions should be treated equally.” But Bollywood doesn’t follow that.
Because they fear Muslim or Christian reaction.
- If a joke is made on a mullah or a pastor: Immediate FIR, protests, legal notice
- If scene is shot in church or mosque wrongly: Religious group writes to censor board
So what does Bollywood do?
“Why take risk? Let’s just use Hindu gods. No one will mind.”
This is not creativity. This is cowardice.
- Hindu Audience Needs to Wake Up
Main reason this keeps happening is simple:
👉 Hindus don’t react strongly or unitedly.
- 1% audience boycotts
- 5% do angry tweets
- Rest 94% still watch the same actors’ next movie
This sends message to Bollywood:
“Hindus only talk, they don’t act.”
But other communities:
- File PILs in court
- Stop film release
- Do global-level protest
That’s why their religion is shown with respect.
What Should We Do?
1.Stop Supporting Anti-Hindu Films
- Don’t watch or promote such films or actors.
2.Educate Our Kids About Real Hinduism - Share knowledge about temples, Vedas, gods – not WhatsApp jokes.
http://3.Support Dharmic Cinema - Watch and promote movies like Kantara, Tanhaji, Kashmir Files, Ram Setu.
4.Ask for Equal Respect - Demand same standards for all religions. Either mock all, or none.
Final Message
Hinduism never taught hate. It teaches peace, science, family, and nature love. That’s why it survived thousands of years.
But Bollywood is slowly breaking that image – for fun, money, and fear.
“Respect sab ka hona chahiye. Dar kisi ka nahi hona chahiye.”
“Joke banana ho to sab pe banao. Sirf ek dharm ko punchbag mat banao.”
