11th International Yoga Day Celebrated at Hindu Heritage Centre Rotorua

The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with enthusiasm and unity at the Hindu Heritage Centre in Rotorua on Saturday, 21 June 2025, in collaboration with the High Commission of India to New Zealand. This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” reflected the deep connection between personal well-being and the health of our planet.

The event attracted participants from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, including Māori, Italian, German, American, Australian, Chinese, French, Cook Islands, Indian, and Fijian communities—highlighting yoga as a shared practice that transcends cultural boundaries.

As part of the nationwide Health for Humanity Yogathon (June 14–28), this Rotorua celebration encouraged individuals of all ages to learn about yoga and adopt it as a daily practice for holistic wellness.

The session was led by experienced local yoga instructors, Nilamani Wright and Amy Jozwiak, who regularly offer classes at the Centre. Participants were guided through a series of yoga postures and breathing exercises, focusing on physical strength, inner calm, and mental clarity. The event concluded with a group Surya Namaskar sequence, leaving attendees feeling centred and rejuvenated.

Reflecting on the event, Nilamani Wright shared, “It was uplifting to see so many people come together in the spirit of yoga. Events like this remind us that yoga is not just exercise—it’s a path to harmony within ourselves and with the world around us.”

Dr Guna Magesan, President of the Hindu Council of New Zealand, extended his gratitude to the yoga teachers for facilitating an engaging and energising session, and to all attendees for their vibrant participation. He encouraged everyone to continue their yoga journey beyond the event and to share its benefits within their communities.

After the session, participants were treated to light refreshments kindly provided by Mayank Gulati from Indian Palate Restaurant.

The Hindu Council of New Zealand extends its heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to making the event a success. We look forward to continuing this journey of health, unity, and well-being in the years ahead.
