Jharkhand: Islamist Pyare Hussain abducted minor Hindu girl; crimes against women surge under JMM-Congress alliance

Jagmuni, a resident of Anabiri village under the Dumri police station, has filed a complaint regarding the abduction of her minor daughter. Based on the reports from Hindustan, she has accused Islamist Pyare Hussain, a resident of Jairagi, of forcibly taking her daughter from their home. According to the FIR, on October 12, Islamist Pyare Hussain arrived at the victim’s house with several others and, after issuing life-threatening warnings, took away the girl. He allegedly threatened to burn down the house and kill the family, leaving them in a state of fear and panic.

After gaining the support of villagers, the family approached the police station, requesting legal action against the accused Islamist. Dumri police station in-charge, Anuj Kumar, confirmed that an FIR has been registered and that an investigation is currently underway. This incident has left the community shaken, as such a crime is unprecedented in the area.

The incident received widespread condemnation on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), with many criticizing the JMM-Congress alliance for neglecting women’s safety.

Rising rape and assault cases in Jharkhand

A 14-year-old tribal girl from Jharkhand’s Godda district was allegedly raped by three men while returning home from a Durga Puja fair on October 12. Based on the reports from the Times of India, the crime, reported by the victim’s mother on Sunday, underscores the growing danger faced by women and girls under the current Hemant Soren-led government. Following the filing of the case, police, under Superintendent Animesh Naithany, swiftly arrested the three accused. However, this incident is just one of many that reflect the disturbing rise in crimes against women across the state.

The JMM-Congress alliance has come under heavy criticism for its failure to protect women. In another incident, reported by Hindustan, a minor girl in Kathwara, under Herodih police station in Jamua block, narrowly escaped an attempted rape on Thursday evening. The girl was planting potatoes when a mute individual tried to assault her. When she screamed for help, the perpetrator slapped her, rendering her unconscious. Her family treated her privately without informing the police, and efforts are reportedly being made to suppress the case.

The Jharkhand BJP tweeted, “The Hemant government has become a curse for our sisters and daughters. The JMM-Congress alliance has brought shame to Jharkhand. Crimes against women have risen so rapidly across the state that this anti-women and incompetent government has no right to remain in power.”

This strong statement from the BJP reflects growing frustration with the current state government, accusing it of failing to ensure the safety of women in Jharkhand. The party highlights the increasing number of crimes against women as a direct consequence of the governance under the Hemant Soren-led administration, calling for its removal from power.

Based on reports from Hindu Post in 2022, a total of 1,425 rape cases were registered in Jharkhand in 2021, averaging one rape incident every 6 hours. These are only the cases that were officially reported to the police. In addition, 164 cases of assault on women were registered. Similarly, 1,805 cases of dowry harassment and 164 cases of attempted rape were also reported. These figures highlight the critical and ongoing crimes against women in Jharkhand, yet the JMM-Congress alliance shows no shame or accountability for the alarming situation.
