Muslim woman Asiya seeks justice; claims husband gave her Triple Talaq for voting BJP: Aligarh

In Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, a shocking incident has come to light. A Muslim woman named Asiya was divorced simply because she voted for the BJP. The victim shared that she cast her vote for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, and when her husband learnt about it, he immediately divorced her. For the past two months, Asiya has been running from pillar to post, seeking justice.

Asiya, a resident of Sunpehar Edalpur, married Sevan Miyan from Barauli on 7 April 2021. She mentioned that her parents gave a dowry of around eight lakhs fifty thousand rupees during the wedding. She alleges that Sevan Miyan was already married and deceived her into marrying him.

After the marriage, Asiya faced harassment from her husband and in-laws for more dowry, forcing her to stay at her parental home. On 26 June, after voting, Asiya was on her way home with her brother when they met Sevan Miyan and his brothers. Sevan asked her whom she had voted for, and she replied that she had voted for the BJP.

Sevan became furious and asked, “Didn’t you vote for the Samajwadi Party?” His brothers, Shabbu and Saadan, who were with him, urged him to divorce her. Sevan then said “talaq-talaq-talaq” three times and left.

Asiya explained that she has been visiting police stations for the past two months, seeking action against Sevan Miyan, but has not received any help. Now, she has filed a complaint at the tehsil office.
