“The implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand from Monday (January 27, 2025) has sparked significant dissatisfaction among Muslim organizations. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has issued a statement opposing the UCC in Uttarakhand, stating that the Uniform Civil Code is unacceptable to Muslims under any circumstances.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani has described the UCC enforced in Uttarakhand as a violation of the constitutional right to religious freedom and likened it to an assault on democracy.
Maulana Madani stated that implementing this law while ignoring the objections of concerned parties, especially Muslim minorities, is unjust. Public feedback collected by the Law Commission of India previously revealed that the majority of the country’s population does not support the UCC……..”
