Under Siege: Hindu Kinnars Endure Beef Coercion and Conversion Pressure Across Bharat by Muslim Transgenders

Bharat’s transgender communities, often known as Kinnars or Hijras, have long navigated social marginalization while preserving distinct cultural and religious identities. However, a disturbing pattern has emerged over the past seven years: forced religious conversions, physical assaults, threats, and psychological coercion targeting Hindu transgenders by Muslim transgenders. This article compiles 17 verified incidents from 2019 to 2026, drawn from police complaints, news reports, and eyewitness accounts. In each case, FIRs (First Information Reports) were filed, highlighting a systemic issue that has prompted protests, arrests, and community outrage. These events span multiple states, underscoring the vulnerability of Hindu Kinnars within their own marginalized groups.

Recent Tragedies: Suicides and Protests in 2026

The crisis peaked dramatically on January 14, 2026, in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, where Hindu Kinnar Mona died by suicide after enduring prolonged torture by her Muslim Kinnar guru, Kaleem Khan (alias Kiran Naik). Hindu organizations and Kinnar leader Rani Thakur, alongside Bajrang Dal activists, besieged the Motinagar police station, demanding justice. Accusations included forced Islam conversion and coercion to eat beef, with suspicions that Mona was murdered and hanged. An FIR was registered, amplifying calls for protection of Hindu Kinnar traditions.

That same day in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu Kinnar group led by Bijli Upadhyay and Saniya Upadhyay filed a complaint against Muslim Kinnar Manju Devi (alias name) at Suriyawan police station. Victims reported relentless pressure to abandon Hinduism for Islam, rejecting their Sanatan traditions. An FIR followed, marking the second major Sagar-linked uproar in 24 hours.

Escalating Violence in Late 2025

Violence intensified in November 2025. In Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, on November 18, Hindu Kinnar Madan (alias Monika) accused Muslim Kinnar guru Iqbal and accomplices of territorial disputes over “badhai” (congratulatory blessings) rights. They demanded Islam conversion as a precondition, threatening murder and acid attacks. Monika’s group chanted “Jai Shri Ram” in defiance, leading to an FIR.

In Amravati, Maharashtra, on November 5, a Hindu Kinnar group released a video pleading for protection, alleging lethal attacks and conversion pressure by Muslim Kinnars. Non-compliance led to armed encirclement and intimidation, forcing many into fear-driven isolation. Police registered an FIR.

Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, saw similar coercion on November 5 when Hindu Kinnar Anjali Sakhi, Mahamandaleshwar of Vaishno Kinnar Akhara, held a press conference accusing Muslim Kinnar Nargis of threats and refusing settlement in a lawsuit unless conversion occurred. An FIR was filed amid warnings of reprisals.

Mass Despair and Extreme Allegations in Mid-2025

Indore, Madhya Pradesh, witnessed two shocking cases. On October 16, 24 Hindu transgenders attempted collective suicide by consuming phenyl, citing blackmail, assaults, and threats by Muslim Kinnar leader Sapna Haji (alias Sapna Guru), Raja Hashmi, and associates. Police arrested Sapna Haji after seizing conference funds and prolonged exploitation.

Earlier, on July 14, Hindu Kinnar leader Sapna Guru alleged that Muslim Kinnars Naeem Ansari and Farzana from Malegaon forcibly injected HIV-positive needles into resisters, infecting around 60 Hindu Kinnars. This sparked mass exodus or coerced integration, with an FIR lodged.

In Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, on May 6, Muslim Kinnars pressured Nikki’s Hindu group to convert, threatening social boycott, work bans, and expulsion. An FIR addressed the coercion.

Patterns of Coercion from 2021-2024

Earlier incidents reveal a consistent modus operandi: guru-shishya (mentor-disciple) dynamics exploited for conversion.

  • Bulandshahr, UP (Dec 21, 2024): Sita (alias Sapna) escaped her Muslim Kinnar guru’s captivity after beatings and lockdown for refusing conversion. Continuous phone threats followed; FIR filed.
  • Muzaffarnagar, UP (Nov 24, 2023): Dalit Hindu Kinnar Muskan was assaulted, robbed, and threatened by Kashir Ali and Guddu for rejecting Islam; head stitches required. FIR registered.
  • Indore, MP (Sep 22, 2023): A Hindu Kinnar faced death threats from Muslim peers in Nandalalpura for idol worship and non-conversion. FIR filed.
  • Sitapur, UP (Sep 22, 2023): Hindu Kinnars endured beatings and lures of Muslim privileges from their guru; FIR lodged.
  • Aligarh, UP (Oct 31, 2022): Pankaj Kinnar faced expulsion for refusing namaz and meat; FIR after community shaming.
  • Prayagraj, UP (Jun 22, 2022): Pankaj Kinnar was beaten, falsely implicated in theft post-conversion attempt by a Shahganj Muslim Kinnar. FIR filed.

Roots in 2019-2022: Threats and Entrapment

  • Karnal, Haryana (Mar 14, 2022): Jyoti faced room invasion, abuse, and demands for Islam and beef to stay in the dera (camp). FIR registered.
  • Aligarh, UP (Aug 7, 2021): Youth Rahul was lured, forcibly converted, circumcised, and sexually exploited by Muslim Kinnar Sabir, who targeted his family too. One arrest; FIR filed.
  • Faridabad, Haryana (Sep 13, 2019): Six Hindu Kinnars (Kumkum, Sapna, etc.) endured mental torture and death threats from Guddu Kinnar for resisting conversion. FIR lodged.

A Call for Urgent Intervention

These 17 cases, concentrated in Uttar Pradesh (10 incidents) and Madhya Pradesh (4), reveal a pattern: 100% involved FIRs, with tactics like beef coercion (4 cases), death/acid threats (6), assaults (9), suicides/attempts (3), and even alleged HIV injection (1, impacting 60). Transgenders, already facing societal stigma, now battle intra-community religious strife. Hindu Kinnars emphasize preserving Sanatan rites amid “badhai” turf wars. Authorities must investigate deeper, enforce anti-conversion laws, and protect vulnerable identities to prevent further tragedies.
