Indian American Law Makers take their Oath on the BHAGAVAD GITA

Tulsi Gabbard the first Hindu American to be elected to the US House of Representatives took her oath on the Bhagavad Gita . She said she is proud to be a Hindu. The Gita said Tulsi Gabbard has been a tremendous source of inner peace and strength through many tough challenges in life , including being in the midst of death and Turmoil a while serving America in the Middle East.

Suhas Subramanyam the first Indian American from the Congress East Coast took his oath of office on the Bhagavad Gita . Raja Krishnamoorthi – Indian American Congressman read a passage from the Bhagavad Gita at a Bipartisan Interfaith Prayer Service on the first Day of the 119th Congress Meet .Kash Patel was sworn as the ninth Director of the FBI he took his oath on the Bhagavad Gita.

America – a Multi religious, Multi cultural secular country gives the freedom for its Law Makers to take their oath of office on the Bhagavad Gita , this has to be appreciated. In India Members of parliament take an oath on the CONSTITUTION . For Prominent Indians who have migrated to America many years ago the land of their birth is still India . Though they have assimilated themselves well in America their religious identity as Hindus is still very strong in them Chandrika Krishna Murthy Tandon who was born and grew up in Chennai is now a globally recognized Indian American Business Leader and musician.

She has won the prestigious Grammy Award – the highest honor in the music industry presented each year in the United States for her music album Triveni where she has blended ancient Sanskrit mantras and Vedic Chants with western music . The first number in the Triveni is ‘’ The Pathway to Light’’, where the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is chanted . The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is a verse from the Rigveda dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is revered for its protective and healing powers.

The Mantra

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe. Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam Urvarukamiva Bandhanam. Mrityor mukshiya Maamritat.
Om Tryambakam means Salutations to Lord Shiva -the three eyed One.

Yajamahe : We worship and honor Him.

Sugandhim : The fragrant one symbolizing auspiciousness and Purity . Pushtivardhanam : The nurturer of strength and well being. Urvarukamiva Bandhanam Mrityor Muukshiya Maamritat : Like a ripe cucumber freeing itself from Bondage , Liberate us from the cycle of Death grant us immortality.

The Mrityunjaya Mantra when chanted 108 times produces powerful vibrations and spiritual resonance . Chandrika Tandon mentions that she is receiving e-mails not just from Indians but from people all over the world wanting to know of the Mrityunjaya Chant.

Chandrika Tandon says the Mrityunjaya Mantra transformed her life and she wants the mantra to be made accessible for everyone. According to Sriraj Nair spokesperson for Vishwa Hindu Parishad, ‘’Indian Americans who have settled in America for two three generations are still connected to their cultural and religious roots such is the power of our Hindu Dharma.’’
