Another Tamil Nadu village falls prey to Waqf board claims: 150 Hindu families face eviction by local Dargah

In a shocking development from Tamil Nadu, approximately 150 Hindu families in Kottukollai village, Anaikattu Taluk, have been served eviction notices by the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board. The notice claims that the entire village land belongs to a local Dargah, effectively branding the residents—who have lived there for four generations—as illegal occupants.

The notice, reportedly issued by Syed Ali Sultan Shah, declared that the land under Survey Number 330/1 is Waqf property, and residents must either vacate or begin paying taxes to the Dargah. Alarmed and anguished, the villagers rushed to the Vellore District Collector’s office on April 15, pleading for immediate administrative intervention and justice.

Most families in Kottukollai depend on agriculture and hold government-issued land ownership documents, yet they now face the grim threat of displacement. Their generations-old connection to the land is now challenged by dubious historical claims made by the Waqf Board—claims that many say are neither transparent nor legally sound.

This incident echoes the Thiruchendurai land dispute in Tiruchirappalli district, where the Waqf Board staked claim to 480 acres of land, including a 1,500-year-old Chola-era temple, and mandated No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Waqf Board for Hindu residents to even sell their land. These aggressive claims have stirred widespread fear across Tamil Nadu and beyond.

Despite the Waqf (Amendment) Bill being introduced and passed by Parliament to bring transparency and curb such land grabs, DMK and other so-called secular parties opposed the bill, exposing their allegiance to vote-bank politics over Hindu rights. Meanwhile, radical Waqf interests continue to threaten ancestral Hindu lands, heritage, and livelihoods. This is no longer about religion—this is about land, identity, and survival.

The silence of the Tamil Nadu government is deafening as Hindus are pushed to the edge by unconstitutional claims. It is time citizens woke up to the creeping land jihad and demand accountability from those shielding such encroachments in the name of minority welfare. The Waqf Amendment Bill is not only necessary—it is long overdue. It must be enforced strongly, and those standing against it must be exposed for siding with forces that seek to erase Hindu presence from their homeland.

In September 2022, the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board claimed ownership of the entire Thiruchendurai village in Tiruchirappalli district, including the 1,500-year-old Sundareswarar Temple. This claim shocked local residents, who have lived there for generations and possess government-issued land documents. The Waqf Board’s assertion meant that villagers could not sell their land without obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Board. This situation has left the residents in a state of uncertainty and distress.

In a country where history stretches back thousands of years, it is both ironic and outrageous that Islamic Waqf Boards are staking claim over temples and lands that existed long before Islam as a religion even emerged. From the 1,500-year-old Chola-era Vishnu temple in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruchendurai to land parcels across Maharashtra and Karnataka, sacred Hindu spaces—older than the very foundations of Islam—are being falsely claimed as Waqf properties.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of the Waqf Board asserting claims over lands traditionally owned and inhabited by Hindu communities. No matter the laws passed, the illegal land claims and Islamic encroachment tactics against Hindus seem relentless. From ancient temples to farming villages, Hindus are being systematically targeted and harassed. Such actions have raised concerns about the rights of long-standing residents and the preservation of Hindu heritage sites.
