“India stands at an inflection point in its military evolution. The combination of a contested neighbourhood, hardening geopolitical rivalries, rapid technological shifts and multi-domain threats have rightly pushed the country toward greater integration in planning, operations and capability development.
The reforms initiated by the Kargil Review Committee (KRC) and Group of Ministers (GOM) laid the foundation for integrated processes, culminating in the establishment of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and, two decades later, the appointment of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in 2020.
India’s transition toward integration is essential and irreversible. The forces of modern warfare – artificial intelligence (AI), drones, long-range fires, cyber, space require deeply integrated responses. Not only tri-services integration, we also need civil-military fusion as a metric of national power……”
