“Punjab: Nihang Sikh attacks MNREGA worker at Gurdwara in Amritsar with a sword for asking for tea”, Opindia, August 7, 2024:

“On 4th August, a Nihang Sikh attacked an MNREGA worker at a Gurdwara in Butari Village, Amritsar, who went there to have tea at Langar. The injured worker has been identified as Nishan Singh, a resident of Butari village. The victim filed a complaint to the police based on which an FIR has been registered against the accused Happy Nihang and an investigation is underway.

Nishan Singh filed a complaint at Khilchiyan police station. He said that he is an MNREGA worker and went to have tea at Bhindar Gurdwara at around 11 AM on 4th August. When he asked Granthi Happy Singh if there was tea that he could take, Happy started arguing with him. During the argument, Happy Singh picked up his sword and attacked Nishan Singh.

The accused attacked Nishan Singh four times on his hands and feet. Nishan Singh’s nephew heard his screams and rushed to his aid. He somehow managed to free Nishan Singh and rushed him to Civil Hospital Baba Bakala where he is undergoing treatment. The condition of Singh is said to be critical……”
