Protecting Hindu Women from Love Jihad: The Amjhera Rape and Conversion Case Sparks Outcry

An incident of love jihad has been reported from Amjhera, Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, involving a case of sexual assault and forced religious conversion of a Hindu woman. According to news reports, Aamir Sheikh, a resident of Deoband, Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), presented himself as ‘Anil’ to develop a relationship with a young Hindu woman from Amjhera. Their contact began when the woman was in Gujarat with her husband for work. After marital disputes, she returned to her parental home, where Aamir, under the false identity of Anil, befriended her and proposed marriage. He later lured her away, sexually assaulted her, and pressured her to convert to Islam, threatening her with violence when she refused.

Police arrested Aamir after the woman’s family filed a missing persons report, registering cases under charges of rape and sections of the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act, 2021. This is reportedly the second such incident in the area within two days, with another similar case involving Noor Mohammad, who also used a fake Hindu identity to entice and assault a woman.

Upon refusing, she was threatened with death. The victim’s family filed a missing person report at the Dasai police station. Police conducted a swift investigation and arrested the accused, Amir. Police station in-charge Raju Makwana said that according to the complaint lodged by the victim, the accused Aamir, son of Shamim Sheikh, resident of Deoband district Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), introduced himself to the girl by telling his name as Anil.

Another Incident

In another case of love jihad, the involvement of Bhopal’s Machhli Gang has come to light. Shah Siddiqui, a member of the Machhli Gang, posed as a Hindu and lured a young woman into a love affair. He fed her pan masala laced with drugs and raped her.

After making the video, he began blackmailing the girl. He also pressured her to convert. It’s worth noting that the Machhli Gang recently came to light in Bhopal when some young women who were victims of rape and blackmail filed complaints at police stations. Now, the actions of Shah Siddiqui, a member of the same gang, have come to light.

According to the police, Shad Siddiqui met the 26-year-old woman two years ago. Originally from Jabalpur district, the woman had gone to Bhopal in search of a job. Shad introduced himself as Sachin and befriended her. After raping her, he began blackmailing her. Police have filed a case against the accused under various sections, including the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.

Societal Reaction and Hindu Perspective

Such incidents are an evidence of a systematic targeting of Hindu women by Muslim men for the purposes of conversion and religious demographic manipulation. It highlights the need for for strict legal action, increased surveillance of interfaith relationships, and public campaigns to protect Hindu women from being coerced into conversion. For many in the Hindu community, such episodes show the impacts of love jihad and forced conversions on family honor and the wider Hindu cultural fabric.
