Kerala police arrested a native of Bihar in the case of abducting a 12-year-old girl. Ambalapuzha police arrested Mehmood Mian (38), a native of West Champaran district, Bihar.
On the 20th, when the girl’s mother went to work in the shrimp peeling shed, the accused, staying in the building next to the house on rent, came to the girl. Allegedly, Mian promised to marry the victim, took 50,000 rupees kept in the house and abducted the minor. She is the daughter of an immigrant worker staying at Valanjavazhy on the beaches of Ambalapuzha in Alappuzha district.
When the victim’s family returned in the evening, neighbours told them the girl had left with Mian. Money kept in the house was also found missing. The parents complained to the Ambalapuzha police station.
During the investigation conducted by the police, they learned that Mian went to Ernakulam with the girl and travelled to Bihar by train from there. The police team left for Bihar and caught the accused from Balharshah railway station in Ballarpur Town of Maharashtra mid-way with the help of railway police.
After counselling, the minor girl was produced at Ambalapuzha First Class Magistrate Court, where her statement was recorded. She was released with her mother.
The accused was remanded for 14 days. About 20,000 rupees were recovered from the accused. The arrested Mehmood Mian, is married and the father of three children.
A team consisting of Sub-Inspectors Shahul Hameed, Jayachandran, Senior Civil Police Officer Naushad A, Civil Police Officers Joseph Joy, Vishnu, Anoop Kumar, Muhammad Shafiq and Darshana, led by Police Inspector Pratheesh Kumar, found the child and arrested the accused.
