Police have registered a case against an Islamist cleric named Akbar Shah who molested an 11-year-old minor girl inside a madrasa in Kottiyam, Kollam district. It is alleged that he repeatedly abused the minor inside the madrassa at Mylapure Masjid in Kottiyam.
There are also allegations that despite receiving a complaint, the police helped the cleric to escape by delaying his arrest. It is accused that the connivance of a few officials at the Kottiyam police station helped the POCSO accused escape.
In her statement, the girl said that that the accused had been molesting her for a long time. She was taken for a medical examination after the complaint was registered.
