New Janata Colony in Haryana’s Faridabad was rocked by a violent incident in which Ravi Kashyap, a respected Hindu priest at the local Kali temple, was brutally assaulted by Islamists. The assailants attacked him near the temple premises, leaving him severely injured. They even raised the ‘sar tan se juda’ (STSJ) slogan while fleeing, alarming the locals. The incident led to widespread outrage among residents, who gathered at Baba Deep Singh Chowk to protest against the violence.
In response to the escalating tensions, the police swiftly intervened to calm the situation and reassure the community of their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators. Retaliatory actions were reported, with some targeting the homes of the suspected attackers.
On 28 June night, the entire colony was facing a power cut. Ravi was lying outside their house with his elder daughter. Ravi’s wife was sitting outside the temple in the alley with their younger daughter. Around midnight, Colony residents Mahatab and Golu (aka Rashi) arrived outside their house to speak with the Pujari. Suddenly, Mahatab took out a knife and started attacking Ravi. Subsequently, Iqbal (Lala), Sajid, and Golu arrived and attacked the Pujari. The Pujari’s wife was struck with a knife by Iqbal when she tried to save her husband. They also chanted “sar tan se juda” and other Islamic slogans.
Ravi’s wife, Pushpa Kashyap, filed a formal complaint, prompting a police investigation into the incident. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused based on eyewitness accounts and evidence gathered at the scene. The Police registered a case against Iqbal, Mahatab, Golu, Sajid, and Golu’s wife. According to the Police, Ravi received deep wounds. Further investigation is underway.
Ravi Kashyap’s condition remains critical but stable after receiving urgent medical treatment. The community has shown solidarity with the Kashyap family, condemning the violence and emphasizing unity during this challenging time.
