“On the night of 25th December, an operation to clear stones lying outside a mosque in the bus stand area led to violence and stone-throwing in Chomu town of Jaipur in Rajasthan. The police were compelled to implement strict measures to bring the situation under control, and the administration also suspended internet services as a precautionary step. 6 cops were injured, and 10 accused have been arrested.

According to reports, there were stones on the roadside adjacent to a Qalandari mosque near the Chomu bus stand for approximately 45 years. The administration made the decision to remove them to improve traffic flow and, hence, engaged in discussions with the representatives of the Muslim community prior to the action. The removal of the stones commenced following a mutual agreement.

Initially, everything unfolded smoothly, and the stones were cleared. However, a Muslim crowd began to protest when attempts were made to set up railings alongside iron angles to establish a permanent structure at the site. This agitation gradually developed into a dispute, resulting in a tense situation….”
