Islamist mob attacked a Hindu wedding procession; one dead, several injured, allegations of police and political cover-up: Gaya, Bihar

A tragic and violent incident marred what was meant to be a joyous wedding celebration in Guharu village under the Gurua police station area of Bihar’s Gaya district. As per the Organiser, a mob of Islamist men allegedly attacked a Hindu wedding procession of the Yadav community, resulting in the death of an elderly man and leaving several others, including women and children, seriously injured.

The attack took place around 9:30 PM during the wedding procession (baraat) of Mithilesh Yadav, which was moving toward the bride’s residence in Sadharo Cham Nema Bigha after a Mata Pujan ceremony. Out of respect and fear due to past incidents, the DJ music was reportedly halted before the procession passed a mosque en route to a nearby temple. While only the groom and elderly family members proceeded to the temple, the rest waited behind.

As they returned, a violent mob of Islamist men and women—allegedly led by individuals named Itipas Miya, Sonu Alam, Mansur Alam, Tusar Alam, and others—attacked the group with sticks and stones. According to eyewitnesses and an FIR filed by Sunaina Devi, the attackers hurled casteist slurs and brutally assaulted members of both the Yadav and Mahadalit communities.

Elderly villager Ramvriksh Yadav, the groom’s father, was lynched during the attack and later succumbed to his injuries. Several women, including Sunaina Devi, were beaten, and in one instance, her blouse was allegedly torn by Aslam Miya in a sexual assault. Jewelry and cash were reportedly looted, and a thatched house was vandalized.

Casteist slurs and threats to the scheduled castes

The attackers reportedly used slurs such as “Harijan” and threatened to burn down Dalit homes if they approached the police. “We will not spare even a single Dalit,” one of the assailants allegedly said.

An FIR (No. 210/2025) was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including charges for rioting, grievous hurt, assault on women, theft, and wrongful confinement. Sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were also invoked.

The police have arrested two accused: Monu, alias Tushad Ahmed, and Chand Ahmed. However, controversy erupted when the injured groom and his relatives, also victims, were detained instead of being hospitalized. Local sources allege that the police did not include Ramvriksh Yadav’s death in the FIR, pointing to a possible cover-up.

Allegations against police and political inaction

Residents accuse local police of bias and underreporting the incident to avoid communal fallout. Officer Mohammad Sarfaraz Imam is leading the investigation, but villagers express distrust due to what they perceive as one-sided treatment. Political figures have also come under fire. Local RJD MLA Vinay Yadav, despite being from the same community, did not visit the village or meet the victims. Local leader Amit Dangi reportedly had to intervene to ensure a postmortem was conducted for the deceased.

Villagers describe a persistent pattern of tension and discrimination. With over 150 Muslim households and only 10–15 Hindu families, Guharu is described as an Islamic-dominated village where Hindu festivities, including wedding processions and temple visits, are restricted.

“They don’t want us to live peacefully,” said local resident Gopi Yadav. “They stop us from using DJs. But when they take out their Muharram procession, they provoke us right outside our homes.”

Another villager added, “We paused the DJ far before the mosque, yet they attacked. All they want is to erase our religion.”

The role of the police in such incidents also raises serious concerns. When law enforcement appears to turn a blind eye or even aid radical Islamist mobs, it erodes public trust and leaves innocent people vulnerable. If the very institutions meant to protect citizens are compromised by political pressure or vote-bank compulsions, then where can ordinary Hindus turn for justice and safety? This system will continue to fail Hindus unless the deeply rooted politics of appeasement are brought to an end. Bharat needs governance based on justice and equality, not selective outrage and communal favoritism.
The recurring attacks on Scheduled Caste Hindu families during sacred occasions like weddings point to a dangerous pattern of targeted communal aggression that cannot be ignored. What is especially alarming is the brazenness with which such elements attempt to assert dominance and disrupt peace in the name of religious intolerance. If Bharat is to uphold its constitutional values of equality and justice, the authorities must act swiftly and decisively—not only to punish the culprits but to ensure that such hate-driven acts never recur. The rights of every Hindu, including those from marginalized communities, to live with dignity and without fear must be protected at all costs.

Today, the biggest risk is humanities’ irretrievable sinking into terror and intimidation infested swamp of radical Mohammadinism. The most practical way, in my view, is for Hindu organizations across the country to coordinate between themselves in protesting, pressurizing authorities against such incidents. And where possible support street level coordinated control, taking care of Muslims and others who explicitly disown scriptures and practices that are meant to subjugate or destroy non-Muslims. Of course, it requires that we all should fund and otherwise support diligent Hindu organizations and workers for this purpose. Without organized effort, the situation is hopeless.
