Govt Hostel teen lured into Church becomes pregnant; authorities accused of attempting to cover up the matter: Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, a case of teen pregnancy and evangelism involving a minor student at a government hostel has come to light. The student became pregnant, and the school superintendent sent her home for an abortion without informing authorities, aiming to keep the incident quiet. The district Collector ordered an investigation and suspended the school superintendent after locals complained.

A five-member committee, led by Pakhanjoor area SDM Anjor Singh Paikra, has been tasked with investigating the matter. The committee has been instructed to report back within two days.

The issue came to light when the villagers of Chhote Bethia informed local MLA Vikram Usendi about the situation. Usendi was touring the Bande area when a villager complained about the girls’ hostel superintendent. According to the complaint, the superintendent runs the hostel as she wishes and forces the girls to work. She is supposed to stay overnight but leaves the hostel, leaving only a lady peon with the girls.

The complaint also revealed that a student was made pregnant by an unknown person. Furthermore, the hostel authorities forced the student to abort the foetus, keeping the entire issue under wraps and not informing higher authorities. The villagers claimed the girl wasn’t allowed to take her exams and accused the superintendent of sending girls to a church for religious conversion.

Following these complaints, Usendi spoke to the district Collector, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action. The official statement stated that Kanker Collector had suspended Superintendent Vinita Kujur and appointed a new superintendent in her place. Further action would be taken based on the committee’s report and recommendations.
