Ten days ago, a student, Archana Gaudannavar, of Haveri Morarji Residential School in Haveri, Karnataka, committed suicide after writing a death note. An explosive twist has now come to the fore in the case. It has come to light that the girl took the extreme step as her teacher’s wife harassed her. Her parents already buried her body. The police have registered a complaint, exhumed the dead body and conducted a post-mortem examination.
Archana was studying at Morarji Residential School in Dudhihalli. Zoya, teacher Arifwullah’s daughter, was studying in the same school. The victim and Zoya were friends and studied in the same class. However, Archana was slightly ahead of Zoya in education. Arifullah’s wife, who could not tolerate this, called Archana home and mentally harassed her. Because of this, Archana wrote a death note ten days ago and committed suicide at home on July 2.
Archana, who was studying in class 9, committed suicide at home on July 2. Before committing suicide, she wrote a death note and made serious allegations against the teacher’s wife. She wrote that the teacher’s wife was harassing her, saying why are you ahead of my daughter in studies? Besides this, Archana mentioned personal reasons in the death note. However, there are reports that Archana’s parents ignored this and finished the cremation. According to the report by News First Live, they took cash of around 1 lakh rupees from teacher Arifwullah to close the matter.
At present, there is suspicion surrounding the death of Archana, prompting the police to register a complaint. In Aladakatti village of Hirekerur taluk, the student’s buried body was exhumed for a post-mortem examination. Led by Haveri Sub-Divisional Officer Chennappa, the body was taken out, and the post-mortem was conducted on the spot. Officials from the Women and Child Welfare Department, forensic experts, and the student’s relatives were present during the examination.
Activists protest and demand a CID investigation into the matter
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Karave) Praveena Shetty activists staged a protest on Friday. They submitted a petition at the Tahsildar office demanding that an FIR be registered immediately and CID probe the suicide case of the student. Bharamappa Dammalli, president of the taluk unit of Karave Praveena Shetty faction, demanded that the guilty teacher should be dismissed from service.
Akhila Bharatiya Vidyathi Parishad (ABVP) activists also staged a protest on Friday at the Tahsildar office premises, demanding that appropriate action should be taken against those responsible for the suicide of Archana Gaudannavar.
