Madrassa teacher who was sexually abusing a girl student since she was 6 years old, finally arrested

A madrassa teacher named Akbar Shah who had been sexually abusing his minor girl student since she was 6 years old was finally arrested by Kerala police. The abuse began in 2017 when the victim was a UKG student and came to light on November 21 last year following which the accused absconded.

Akbar Shah is a madrassa teacher attached to the Mylapure Masjid near Kottiyam in the Kollam district of Kerala. The pedophile used to take the little girl to a room on the first floor of the madrassa and abuse her.

On November 21, 2021, the minor girl told her mother about the abuse that she had suffered for the past many years and they complained to the police. Kottiyam Police had registered a case under the POCSO Act and started an investigation into the incident. HinduPost had reported that there were allegations back then about police complicity that allowed the cleric to escape.

The accused was produced in court and remanded for 14 days. Police suspect that there are several other children who were abused by Akbar Shah and are investigating.
