The only firm deadline comes from Home Minister Amit Shah, who has directed that the broader security grid this system supports be finalised within eighteen months, putting completion around late 2027.
Why Drones Forced the Issue
The urgency behind the Pakistan-border pilot is rooted in hard numbers. Government data presented to the Lok Sabha showed the Border Security Force seized 294 drones in Punjab alone in 2024. The new system will integrate Anti-Drone Systems capable of detecting threats from nano-UAVs at 500 metres to fixed-wing drones at three kilometres, using radio frequency jammers spanning 20 MHz to 8 GHz that can disable a drone’s GPS within five seconds and force it down within ten.
