In an incident that has brought immense shame to Keralites around the world, former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi was warmly welcomed by the Malayali community in Dubai.
Although the full details of the event are yet to emerge, media reports suggest that Afridi attended a program organized by the Cochin University BTech Alumni Association (CUBAA). The event took place at the Pakistan Association Dubai Auditorium on May 25th. It’s being reported that Afridi and Umar Gul were originally invited to another event organized by the Pakistan Association of Dubai, which was held nearby. The organizers of the CUBAA event then invited Afridi to address their gathering. They then paused their own scheduled programs and gave him a warm welcome.

It’s true that Indians and Pakistanis live together in Dubai. As expatriates in a third country, they often cooperate and make use of each other’s services in their daily lives. That said, the reality is that Bharat is at war with Pakistan. Let us not forget that Operation Sindoor is still ongoing, as announced by the central government.

At such a critical juncture, how could these so-called “secular” expatriates think it was acceptable to invite someone who has consistently spewed venom against their nation? If you’re unaware of what I’m referring to, this is a man who openly supported Yasin Malik, thereby endorsing separatism in Kashmir.

A few days after the Pahalgam attack, Afridi made a controversial statement, blaming the Indian government for the incident. This is what he said: “The terrorists continued to kill people in Pahalgam for an hour, and not a single Indian soldier out of 8 lakh showed up. But when they did, they blamed Pakistan.”
After Pakistan faced humiliation and requested a ceasefire, this man was later seen celebrating a Pakistani “victory” in a viral video. He even remarked that Narendra Modi must have realized the truth, that he would have to pay a heavy price if he messed with Pakistan.
And now, such a man is being welcomed by members of the Indian community from the most “literate state” in India.
I am speechless. This is nothing short of sedition, and I sincerely hope the Home Ministry takes action against the organizers of this event. As an Indian, I hang my head in shame.
