“As the United States of America under President Donald Trump has started deporting illegal immigrants to their native countries, Columbian President Gustavo Petro has announced that he is blocking planes carrying illegal Colombian migrants back from the USA.
In a post on X on Sunday, Gustavo Petro said that the US can’t treat Colombian migrants as criminals. He announced, “I deny the entry of American planes carrying Colombian migrants into our territory.” The president added that the United States must establish a protocol for the dignified treatment of migrants before the Colombian govt receives them.
A community note has been proposed for the post by the president on X, saying that Colombia must accept its deported nationals under international law as US is only deporting those illegal immigrants who have committed crimes. The proposed note said that turning away American planes could violate agreements……”
