Converted Hindu girl thrown out by Muslim husband in pregnant state: Sindh, Pakistan

In yet another example of how Hindus are persecuted in Pakistan, a young girl who converted to Islam and married a Muslim man, had now been abandoned by her Muslim husband. The case offers a poignant example of how religion can be weaponized against vulnerable individuals from minority populations in a theocratic quasi-democratic state.

The Hindu girl Chanda converted to Islam and became Noor Fatima six years ago and married Junaid Ghori, a Muslim man from Shahdadpur, Sanghar district, Sindh province. Sharia law prohibits a Muslim man from marrying ‘polytheists’ like Hindus (they can marry Christian & Jewish women), so a Hindu girl must convert to Islam for nikah. It is not known if the marriage was forced, or Chanda was pressurized in any way, as is common in Pakistan.

However, just after one year of marriage, things took a dark turn when Junaid became abusive towards the girl and would beat her up for no reason. He want to marry another Muslim girl. So after divorcing Noor, he threw her out of the house in the middle of the night. She wasn’t even allowed to take her daughter with her, and was abandoned when she was 6 months pregnant.

The girl was left alone and helpless, pregnant and homeless. She had lost her family, her husband, and her dignity. In the video above, she is heard saying that her husband started misbehaving with her because he was provoked by his family; now he has divorced her as he is besotted with another girl.

Such cases are a grim cautionary reminder to non-Muslim women that whatever the dreams shown to them in the honeymoon period of a relationship, the indoctrination of subcontinental Muslims to regard ‘kafir’ Hindus as inferior beings is so deep that most Muslim families have difficulty accepting a non-Muslim daughter-in-law, even if she converts to Islam. Here is another such example from UP, Bharat where a Hindu woman faced shocking misbehavior from her Muslim in-laws despite converting to Islam; luckily, that lady’s husband was supportive and both became Hindus to escape the oppressive persecution.

Every year 1000 thousand minority girls are converted to Islam according to Pakistan’s human rights commission, which are reported cases and it is feared that many more are unreported. Forced conversion is a violation of basic human rights, and it is a form of violence that can have long-lasting psychological and emotional effects on victims.

Here is Chanda aka Noor Fatima’s case covered by a local TV channel

In the above video, the girl says her parents have also broken relations with her, so now she has no one that she can turn to. She is seen holding her newborn child in her lap. She says she converted to Islam to marry Junaid and also because she “loved the deen”, but now she has been abandoned despite putting up with all sorts of abuse from her husband and in-laws. She repeatedly asks her ex-husband to provide for her and her children.

The girl’s story is a wake-up call for Pakistan’s government to take stronger action against such inhumanity towards women and minorities.

Furthermore, international society and human rights organizations must play a more active role in raising awareness about the appalling human rights conditions in Pakistan. But strangely, the entire West seems to be obsessed with monitoring and castigating a pluralist country like Bharat, while literally giving a free pass to an Islamofascist nation like Pakistan which is quietly carrying out a slow genocide against its minorities, especially Hindus.
