Another incident of Land Jihad has been reported by a a Hindu minority family in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. This time the location happens to be Kalibari village of Kalmegha union, Patharghata upazila, Barguna district of Bangladesh.
One GM Khalil and his accomplices launched an attack on a Hindu resident of the village, Gobinda Shil and his family, and illegally prohibited them from cultivating their own land.
The issue started from an incident of land sale. Gobinda Shil sold a portion of his land to Khalil. A few days later, Khalil claimed ownership of Shil’s entire land and tried to occupy the whole area. Following this, the Muslims started cultivating Shil’s land illegally in continuation of the attempt to occupy.
On January 31, an unrest ensued between the two families regarding this illegal cultivation. Since then Khalil’s family had been plotting to attack Shil’s family.
On 31/01/2021,6 members of a Hindu family were hacked & injured in Kalibari village of Kalmegha union in Patharghata upazila of Barguna district,BD.The injured were admitted to d hospital.

An armed group led by Khalil, his nephew Alamin, his son Tanvir, and another nephew Salman launched a deadly attack on Gobinda Shil’s family. The attackers tried to kill Shil’s family by beating them severely with rods, hockey sticks and hacking them to death with Ramda (large slicer).
Gobinda Shil, his wife Manju Rani, his nephew Hare Krishna Shil and his son Gautam Chandra Shil were seriously injured in this attack. Hare Krishna Shil’s daughter Mitali and Govinda Shil’s nephew’s wife Poppy Rani were also badly injured.
The accused did not stop at just trying to kill Gobinda Shil’s family. They also threatened to kick them out of the country. The accused were arrested, but soon released on bail to the dismay of the victims.
Since their release they have again started threatening Gobinda Shil and his family with dire consequences and also to deport them. The situation is getting more tense as the accused are now threatening to kill the girls of Gobinda Shil’s family. The injured are being treated in hospital, but Gobinda Shil’s family is living in fear and insecurity.
Like other Hindu families who are victims of Islamic persecution in Bangladesh, it appears that one day Gobinda Shil’s family will also be forced to leave their ancestral homeland.
