Hindu Teenager, Sateesh Kumar, Shot Dead Over Quran ‘Desecration’ in Pakistan

Muslim extremists in Pakistan have started killing Hindu boys to avenge an alleged Quran desecration incident for which a Hindu man was arrested yesterday. The two Hindu boys have been shot at Mirpur Mathelo , Ghotki district, Sindh province – Sateesh Kumar was shot in the back and died, while Avinash has been seriously wounded.

As per news site currentriggers.com –

“Out of the two young Hindu boys, Sateesh Kumar s/o Anoop Kumar has been killed while another boy Avinash has been seriously wounded and is the son of Chetan Das.

News has also come that a 16-year old minor Hindu girl named Madhu has been taken away by armed Muslim extremists from Mirpurkhas. Mirpurkhas is a radical area notorious for selling sandals bearing the sacred Hindu symbol Om, but for Pakistani Hindus these are now the part of their ‘normal’ life.” It is not clear whether this kidnapping is due to Quran desecration for which the Sufi Pirs of Bharchundi are accusing the Hindu community.”

Quran ‘desecration’ & Collective Punishment of Hindus

Pakistani newspaper Dawn seems to be the only daily which carried news of the alleged Quran desecration that occurred yesterday –

“A Hindu man was arrested for allegedly desecrating Holy Quran following massive protests and shutdown by Muslim community in Ghotki District of Sindh, police said on Tuesday.

Daharki police said a Hindu man was “caught and handed over” to them by the residents of village Mehrab Samejo for allegedly “desecrating” Holy Quran. A large number of people in Daharki, Mirpur, Mathelo, Ghotki and adjoining areas of the district took to the streets and blocked National Highway for more than six hours while protesting against the alleged desecration of the holy scripture.

According to the protesters, the accused entered a mosque and “set the holy scripture on fire”. Protesters demanded “severe punishment” for the accused.

A First-Information Report (FIR) was also registered against the accused under section 295 (B) of the Pakistan Penal Code. After taking the Hindu man in custody, police moved him to an undisclosed location for his safety.”

Section 295 (B) of the Pakistan Penal Code is the infamous blasphemy law under which over 1300 people have been accused of blasphemy from 1987 to 2014. The vast majority of the accusations were lodged for desecration of the Quran. Another site gives the name of the arrested Hindu as Amar Lal, and says that as per police sources, Amar is suffering from psychotic disorder.

The Currentrigger article sheds more light on who is behind the organized violence against Hindus that led to the murder of Sateesh Kumar, who had no connection whatsoever to the ‘desecration’ incident –

“There were already reports that the violence would erupt against the Pakistani Hindus but the IG Sindh did not take any steps to contain the terror that has been unleashed against the Hindu community in Ghotki at the behest of the Sufi Peers (Pirs) of the Bharchundi.

Meanwhile, no statement of reassurance has been issued by any political party or anyone from the civil society so far and the media has not bothered to cover the atrocities against the Pakistani Hindus either. The ruling party PPP has strong ties with the Bharchundi Peers and is unlikely to issue a statement against them. All that the Twitter account of the PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, managed to say was about the replacement of Sindh’s Chief Minister.

Qaim Ali Shah is the outgoing CM who refused to release the zakaat (Muslim charity money) in 2014 for the Hindu kids, when they were dying of hunger and want of water in Tharparkar, stating that Muslim charity money is only for Muslims. Tharparkar is the only Hindu-majority district left in Pakistan.”

The ruling party of Sindh is Pakistan People’s Party which considers itself to be a secular party; however, it has failed to uphold any secular principles and has completely failed to stop the never-ending persecution of Hindus in Sindh. The fact that a Sufi dominated area of Pakistan is witnessing such vicious intolerance against an impoverished and submissive Hindu population (consisting of mostly Dalits), once again shows that the mask of Sufi tolerance/ syncretism can slip anytime. We have already exposed how Sufis played a key role in the Islamization of Bharat in an earlier article series.

And such incidents are not new in Pakistan – just that with the dawn of the digital age, these gross human rights violations of Hindus and other minorities in Pakistan are not going under the radar now. What do our left-liberal establishment intellectuals and Muslims like Shah Rukh Khan and Naseeruddin Shah who preach ‘Aman ki Asha’ have to say on this?

The next time a Pakistani politician visits Bharat and grants an interview to NDTV, will Barkha Dutt or her colleagues grill him/her about #justice4Sateesh & persecution of Hindus? Or will they allow Pakistanis to talk about ‘Indian oppression’ in Kashmir, ask for their views on ‘rising intolerance’ in Bharat, and end with banalities like ‘Pakistan is a victim of terror, just like Bharat’?
