The pages of Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib were torn in a Pakistani gurdwara and around 1.5 PKR was stolen from the donation box. The attack on the Gurdwara Sri Guru Har Krishan Ji Dhiaye near Ghouspur city in the Sindh province of Pakistan took place on Friday evening, but police has not lodged an FIR as per last reports.
Karachi-based Sikh lawyer Hira Singh told Times Of India (TOI): “Hate mongers tore the pages of a copy of the holy book and stole the offerings from the golak (donation box). Ghouspur is home to 7,000 Sikhs and Hindus. Unfortunately, police didn’t even register an FIR (first-information report).”
He said that following the incident, the Sikhs of Ghouspur had staged a protest near the gurdwara on Saturday, demanding action against those who had desecrated Guru Granth Sahib. He claimed that: “The local Sikhs and Hindus are scared after the incident and worried about the security of their families and religious places.”
TOI adds that despite repeated attempts, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Ameer Singh didn’t pick up his mobile phone to comment on the sacrilege incident.
