Frenzied Muslim mob burns down Hindu temple in KPK, Pakistan

A frenzied mob of slogan shouting Muslims attacked and burnt down a Hindu temple in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, as per a Pakistani minority rights NGO.

The video shared by Voice of Pakistan Minority (VOPM) on their twitter handle says, “Latest visuals from KPK, an extremist mob of Muslims are burning and razing down a #Hindu temple in Karak. The reason is unknown but look at the hatred they have towards the religious minorities. A little argument is all it takes here to destroy the lives of minorities.”

Pakistani human rights activist Rahat Austin, living in exile, has tweeted that the incident is from Teri village in Karak (Kuruk) district of KPK province, about 200 km from capital Islamabad.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics , Hindu community makes 0.03 percent of KPK’s population. A survey conducted by All Pakistan Hindu Rights Movement (PHRM) found that out of 428 Hindu places of worship in the country, 408 have been converted into toy stores, restaurants, government offices, madrasas and schools after 1990.

Such incidents of desecration, vandalism or outright destruction of Hindu temples are common in both Pakistan and Bangladesh. Government of Bharat has not raised this issue with Pakistani or Bangladeshi governments, or at international fora in any meaningful way.

Even when international media does report such attacks on Hindus, it does so with absurd caveats which evade the Islamic bigotry driving such acts. Sample this Reuters report from 2014 about a temple destroyed in Sindh after the usual Islamist tactic of levelling blasphemy charges –

“Hundreds of angry Pakistanis attacked a Hindu temple and set it on fire in southern Pakistan overnight following a rumor that a member of the Hindu community had desecrated the Koran….

….locals in Larkana district alleged that Sangeet Kumar, 42, had torn out pages of Islam’s holy book and tossed them down on the street from the roof of his home.

…Hundreds of students from local Islamic seminaries attacked the temple holding batons, one witness said.

Pakistan’s rocky relationship with neighboring India, a predominantly Hindu country, has fed tension between the two communities in smaller towns but outright acts of violence are rare.”

Recently, a Bhagwan Vishnu temple was discovered in Pakistan’s Swat district by archaeologists, which was built 1300 years ago by the Hindu Shahis or Kabul Shahis (850-1026 CE), a Hindu dynasty that ruled the Kabul Valley (eastern Afghanistan), Gandhara (modern-day Pakistan), and present-day northwestern Bharat.
