Now, Raksha Chandi vigraha vandalized in Bangladesh

Yet another incident of a Hindu temple murti being desecrated and vandalized has been reported from Bangladesh, this time from Pailanputri village of Charjashordi Union (Panchayet), Nagarkanda upazila (sub-district), Faridpur district.

As per online Bangla newspaper ‘Uttoradhikar71 News’, the vigraha of Raksha Chandi Devi is kept in the family temple of Arjun Sarkar. A reporter witnessed the broken neck & head of the fallen vigraha of the devi. Arjun Sarkar’s mother Geeta Rani Sarkar said they went in a nearby Hari Naam Kirtana on the night of January 24 & came back late. In the morning they saw the broken vigraha, although a Shitala Mata murti next to it was intact.

After getting the news, UNO (Upazila Nirvahi Officer) Mainul Haque visited the temple along with OC (Officer in Charge) Md. Miraj Hossain of Nagarkanda Police Station and UP (Union Parishad) Chairman Kamruzzaman Sahab Fakir.

The desecration might have been carried out by local teenagers, mentioned Fakir. The temple is situated in a shed-like structure with bamboo fencing acting as a wall, so an ‘animal might have damaged the vigraha’ claimed OC Md. Miraj Hossain, although he assured that police would investigate the matter ‘deeply’.
